Breast Cancer

It is the most common site of cancer in women, and cancer of the breast is the leading cause of death among women. Affection the age of 20 to 44 and is frequent in women at all ages now.

  • Higher incidence in women who have never born children, those with a family history of breast cancer and those with a personal history of breast cancer.

Risk Factors:

  1. Hereditary
  2. Marital Status (parity and lactation) - this also influence the incidence of breast cancer. Single and nulliparous women have a slightly higher incidence of breast cancer than married and parous women.

  1. Cancer of uterus and ovary - women with cancer of the uterus have a breast cancer risk almost double that of general population.
  2. Abnormal Hormonal Imbalance.
  3. Trauma
  4. Prolonged Exposure to hormonal stimulation.

Signs and Symptoms:

  1. Early Findings:
  • Single non tender, firm to hard mass with ill - defined margins.
  • Nipple Erosion, with or without mass

2.  Later Findings:

  • Skin or nipple retraction
  • Axillary lymphadenopathy
  • Breast enlargement
  • Redness
  • Edema
  • Pain

3.  Late Findings:

  • Ulceration
  • Edema of the arm
  • Edema of the bone
  • Lung edema
  • Liver Edema
  • and other distant metastases
